OSWEGO — A West Seneca angler won the $25,000 grand prize in the Lake Ontario Counties Fall Salmon Derby, which concluded Monday.
Codey Allen caught a 33-pound, 8-ounce salmon on Aug. 16, the first day of the derby, and weighed it in Olcott. It held up to win Allen the grand prize.
Divisions for the derby were the Salmon Division, the Rainbow/Steelhead Division, and the Brown Trout Division.
For the Salmon Division, first place paid $5,000. Other prizes were $2,000 for second, $1,100 for third, $900 for fourth, $700 for fifth, $400 for places 6-10, $200 for places 11-15, and $100 for places 16-20.
For the other two divisions, the first-place prize was $2,500. The pay was $1,000 for second, $550 for third, $450 for fourth, $350 for fifth, $200 for places 6-10, $100 for places 11-15, and $50 for places 16-20.
The awards ceremony was held Monday at Captain Jack’s in Sodus Point.
Dave Trachte of Sandgate, Vermont took first place in the Salmon Division with a catch weighing 32 pounds, 15 ounces. Oswego’s Steve Engle took second place in the division with a 31-pound, 9-ounce salmon weighed at Screwy Louie’s in Fair Haven.
In the Rainbow/Steelhead Division, the first-place finisher was Lockport’s Nicholes Dougherty with a 15-pound, 6-ounce catch weighed in Olcott.
Farmington’s Bruce Raggi finished first in the Brown Trout Division with a 15-pound, 13-ounce fish weighed in Williamson. Oswego’s Stephanie Brace took 12th place with a 13-pound, 6-ounce fish weighed at K&G Lodge in Oswego.
