SYRACUSE — Oswego, Fulton, and Mexico varsity divers competed at Section III Championships at Nottingham High School on Saturday.
In the Class A meet, Oswego’s Jack Tonkin finished third (454.35 points), and Jacob Smith came in 11th (345.3). Tonkin qualified for the state meet by eclipsing the state-qualifying standard of 450.00 points.
In Class B, Mexico’s Kian Long placed second (439.40 points), while Andrew Harriger took 11th (295.30 points).
Will Patterson (359.35), Corinne Clarke (353.95), and Sydney Sachel (347.35) placed fifth through seventh place for the Raiders.
J-D 58, Oswego 30: The Oswego varsity girls basketball team fell 58-30 to Jamesville-DeWitt on Saturday.
“J-D is a solid all-around good team,” Oswego coach Joe Babcock said. “They have set the bar high for many years. I was happy with the team’s effort. Our backs were against the wall, but we still competed until the final buzzer.”
Caitlin Lilly led the Buccaneers with 11 points. Francesca Scanlon chipped in six points.
The Rams had a 34-12 lead at the half and never looked back.
J-D 85, Oswego 45: Cole Pratt scored 17 points in Oswego’s loss to Jamesville-DeWitt on Saturday.
Twelve of Pratt’s points came off of 3-pointers. Mike Douglas tossed in 15 points. Riley Mahoney added eight points.
The Rams led 50-23 at halftime.
The Section III Cheerleading Championships were held Saturday at South Jefferson Middle School.
In Class A, Oswego placed second and Fulton was third. Oswego qualified for the Division I Large School state tournament.
In Class B, Hannibal finished first and Mexico second. Both schools qualified for the Division II Small School state tournament.
Phoenix won the Coed competition and also qualified for the state tournament.
