WATERTOWN — The Mexico varsity girls swim team placed second at the Watertown Invitational on Saturday.

The Tigers finished with 324 points, while the host Cyclones won the invite (351.5). South Jefferson finished third (170.5), Thousand Islands took fourth (148), and Indian River grabbed fifth (114).

Alexa von Holtz captured three individual event wins for Mexico. She won the 200-yard individual medley (2:13.06), the 100 butterfly (58.51) and the 100 backstroke (1:08.18).

Carolyn Zedack won the 200 free (2:06.5) and the 500 free (5:38.63). The 400 free relay team of von Holtz, Zedack, Riley Baxter, and Sydney Lawton won in 3:58.35.

In the 200 free relay, Evie Fontana, von Holtz, Zedack, and Baxter won in 1:46.61. Lawton, Fontana, von Holtz, and Staci Clifford swam to a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay (2:10.34).

Other third-place finishers for the Tigers were Baxter in the 100 free (58.88) and Lawton in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:20.52).

CROSS COUNTRY

McQuaid Invitational: The Oswego, Fulton, and Hannibal cross country teams competed at the McQuaid Invitational on Saturday.

In the seeded varsity medium schools race, Oswego’s Molly Fitzgibbons placed seventh with a time of 18:27. Miranda Gilbert came in 14th (19:05), and Sophia Babcock took 62nd (20:51).

Hannibal competed in the unseeded varsity A-2 race. Dillon Plantz had the best finish for the Hannibal boys, taking third (16:30). Noah Kuc finished 32nd (17:28), and Xavier Lastra came in at 95th (19:00).

Fulton ran in the unseeded varsity AA-2 races. In the boys race, Ryan Carroll finished 18th (17:01) and Jacob Hahn placed 20th (17:02). Abby Mainville grabbed 47th in the girls race (20:31).

BOYS SOCCER

ESM 6, Fulton 3: Fulton lost to East Syracuse-Minoa on Saturday.

Donovan Duell, Sam Cary, and Mark Tallents netted a goal apiece for the Raiders. Goalkeeper Dalton Hines made 10 saves.

GIRLS SOCCER

Phoenix 4, Mexico 2: Mexico lost 4-2 to Phoenix on Saturday. Adria Ariola scored two goals for the Tigers.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Oswego 3, Liverpool 1: Oswego team beat Liverpool 25-23, 21-25, 25-21, 25-17 on Friday.

Hannah Holland racked up nine kills, 15 digs, and an ace for the Bucs. Other leaders were Victoria Tripp (10 kills, 6 digs, 2 aces), Mary Culeton (8 kills, 3 aces), Nicole Pappa (9 digs, 1 ace), Caitlin Lilly (7 kills, 4 blocks, 1 ace), and Katie Nettles (18 assists).

FOOTBALL

CVA 42, Mexico 14: Mexico lost 42-14 to Central Valley Academy on Friday.

The Tigers’ scoring drives finished on a couple of 1-yard rushing touchdowns by Ethan West and Max Mason.

Mexico is at Oneida this Friday for a 6:30 p.m. matchup.

Fulton 48, Phoenix 8: Fulton cruised in this Developmental League game at Phoenix.

On its first possession, Fulton drove to the Phoenix 1-yard line, but then fumbled, with Phoenix taking possession. Two plays later, Phoenix quarterback Ethan Fox was tackled in the end zone for a safety.

A good kick return by Ian Bogardus set up the Raiders in good field position, and a long run by Cuinn Burlingham set up a 6-yard TD run by Sam Cotton. That started Fulton on the way to the easy victory.
