OSWEGO — The Oswego varsity girls hockey team fell 3-0 to Ithaca at Anthony J. Crisafulli Rink.

Goaltender Ashley Finch made 16 saves for the Lady Buccaneers.

Cam Lemberg, Kayla Swartwood and Nicole Nixon each scored a goal for the Lady Little Red. Dori Shipman provided two assists, while Tess Crane, Maddie Somberger and Leah Hensler each chipped in an assist. Between the pipes, Hannah Brennan stopped 16 shots.

Lemberg and Swartwood scored their goals at 14:18 and 4:02 in the first period, respectively, to give Ithaca a commanding 2-0 lead early on.

Nixon rounded out the scoring for the Lady Little Red with her goal at 12:10 in the third period.


Oswego 4, Auburn 3: Adam Michalski scored the game-winning goal at 12:48 in the third period as the Oswego varsity boys hockey team beat Auburn, 4-3, at Casey Park.

Ryan Bartlett, Ike Calverase and Frank Winchek also had goals for the Buccaneers. Bartlett chipped in two assists, and Winchek and Michalski had an assist apiece. Goaltender Brandon Demling made 20 saves.

Ty Hiywa, RJ Szakalski and Jack Chapman each scored a goal for the Maroons. Hiywa and Ross Burgmaster both contributed an assist. Aaron Kowal stopped 30 shots.

Auburn took an early 1-0 lead in the first period on Hiywa’s goal at 4:18.

Bartlett’s goal at 2:53 in the second period tied it up at 1-1. Then at 3:24 in the second, Szakalski’s goal gave Auburn the lead back at 2-1.

The Bucs garnered back-to-back goals from Calverase and Winchek at 10:57 and 13:31 in the second, respectively, for a 3-2 advantage.

At 14:48, however, the Maroons knotted the score at 3-3 on Chapman’s goal.

Michalski’s goal in the third period put the back-and-forth scoring frenzy between Oswego and Auburn to rest.

Syracuse 3, Fulton 1: The Fulton varsity boys hockey team lost 3-1 to Syracuse.

Derek Schumaker scored the lone goal of the game for the Raiders. Jon Dingman had an assist. Goaltender Jadon Lee made 54 saves.


Fulton 50, Central Square 47: Marcus Shepard’s 23 points led the Fulton varsity boys basketball team past Central Square, 50-47.

Jack Broderick scored 14 points for the Raiders. Cyrus Trude added eight points.

Fulton was undermanned going into its matchup against the Redhawks after Seth Grimshaw, the team’s leading scorer, went down with an injury in warm-ups.

“Great win for us tonight,” Fulton coach Sean Broderick said. “It was an emotional game when Seth got hurt.

“All of our guys believed in each other that they could win. Seth means so much to our program and the guys played for him tonight.”

The Raiders were clinging to a 26-20 lead at the half. The Hawks outscored Fulton, 10-7, in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 33-30. Both teams scored 17 in the fourth quarter, but Fulton slipped away for the win.


Oswego 55, ESM 23: The Oswego varsity girls basketball team topped East Syracuse-Minoa by a score of 55-23.

Caitlin Lilly paced the Lady Buccaneers with 15 points. Mary Culeton tallied 11 points, and Hannah Holland chipped in 10 points. Nicole Pappa added eight points, while Hailey Babcock and Andi Colon each contributed five.

Oswego took a commanding 18-1 lead following the first quarter. At the half, the Lady Bucs had a 26-10 advantage.

“I saw some film on ESM and thought if we went hard pressure defense we could get some turnovers and easy baskets,” Oswego coach Joe Babcock said.

Oswego continued to apply pressure defense to start third quarter.

“I didn’t want our kids to get complacent with a big lead at halftime so I wanted to come out in the third quarter with good energy and build on our lead,” Babcock said.

The Lady Bucs took a 48-17 lead going into the fourth quarter. Babcock mentioned that Oswego “didn’t play any press defense in the fourth.”

“I just wanted them to continue to execute our offense and play some solid man-to-man defense,” he said. “We played a solid team game tonight and need to build on this.”

Central Square 47, Fulton 37: Alena Wright tossed in 16 points, but the Fulton varsity girls basketball team fell 47-37 to Central Square.

The Lady Raiders were down 20-18 at the break. In the second half, the Lady Redhawks used a 27-19 run to lock up the victory.

Madison Gilmore scored 13 points for Fulton.

Cazenovia 56, Mexico 27: The Mexico varsity girls basketball team lost 56-27 to Cazenovia.

The Lady Lakers had a commanding 37-16 lead at the half and never looked back.

Kendall Cuyler finished with eight points for the Lady Tigers. Briana Urquhart and Zianna Gorton each scored five points.


Oswego 3, Syracuse 0: The Oswego varsity boys bowling team topped Syracuse by a score of 3-0.

Chase Wyngen led the Buccaneers with a 577 series. He had a game-high of 215.

Eric Carson chipped in a 569, while Alex Losurdo had a 519. Jack Warren added a 470.


Oswego 3, Syracuse 0: The Oswego varsity girls bowling team swept Syracuse, 3-0.

McKenna Clary paced the Lady Buccaneers with a 467 series. Mallory Upcraft added a 455.


Baldwinsville 57, Mexico 37: The Mexico varsity boys swim team fell 57-37 to Baldwinsville.

Bill Mills picked up two individual event victories in the 200-yard individual medley (2:17.3) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:25.45) for the Tigers.
