OSWEGO — The Oswego St. Paul’s Leprechaun 4th/5th grade girls basketball team topped Marcellus, 19-12, Wednesday at the Soule Road Middle School in Liverpool.
Oswego used strong defense in the first half and took an 11-2 lead into intermission. Tenly Baker led the way in the first half with six points. Maria Sweet added three and Giada Pezzlo chipped in two. Oswego ended the half on a 9-0 run to break a 2-2 tie.
Oswego started the second half the same way it ended the first by extending its lead to 15-4, the biggest margin of the game. Down the stretch, the defense tightened up once again and the Mustangs could only cut the final gap to seven points. Sweet tossed in four points in the second half, while Baker and Pezzlo each added two.
For the game, Baker scored eight points, Sweet added seven points, and Pezzlo tallied four. Also hitting the floor for Oswego were Deysha Cruz, Abbie Ohnmacht, LaLa Mosqueda, Morgan Mills, Alyssa Britt, Kaelyn Bond, Maria Murray and Lindsay Colasurdo.
Oswego (4-1) returns to Soule Road Middle School this upcoming Wednesday for a doubleheader against Baldwinsville and Liverpool. The Big Red Swarm will be the first game at 6:30 p.m., and the Warriors are the second matchup at 7:30 p.m.
