UTICA — The Oswego State men’s hockey team snapped a three-game losing streak by shutting out Plymouth State 8-0 on Saturday in the consolation game of the Delta Hotels by Marriott Thanksgiving Showcase, hosted by Utica College.
Eight players netted a goal apiece for the Lakers (5-3-0). They were Mitch Emerson, Tyson Kirkby, Derek Brown, Josh Zizek, Joseph Molinaro, Max Novick, Colton Fletcher, and Michael Gillespie.
Getting assists were Alex DiCarlo (2), Brown, Travis Broughman (2), Anthony Passero (3), Tyler Currie, Molinaro, Kirkby, Zizek, Carson Vance, and Novick.
Goalie David Richer stopped 21 shots to record the shutout.
Plymouth State netminders Jake Sabourin and Brendahn Brawley combined for 46 saves.
Oswego State converted three of its six power-play opportunities, while Plymouth State (4-4) went 0-for-1.
Oswego opened the scoring at 5:12 of the first period with a beautiful back door pass from DiCarlo setting up Emerson’s fourth goal of the year.
At 18:05 of the period, Kirkby scored his second goal of the season on a power play, assisted by Broughman and Passero.
Derek Brown scored his first goal of the season a minute later for a 3-0 cushion.
The Lakers dominated in the first period, outshooting Plymouth State 21-5.
Molinaro showed his playmaking ability in finding Zizek for a wide-open net on the Lakers’ fourth goal of the game, 7:29 into the second period.
Molinaro scored at 9:14 of the middle stanza, and the Lakers held a 5-0 advantage.
Novick, Fletcher, and Gillespie added third-period goals to seal the victory. The markers by Fletcher and Gillespie came with the man advantage.
Broughman (5 goals, 5 assists) and Passero (1-9) are now tied for the points lead for the Lakers with 10 each.
Oswego State’s next game is at 7 p.m. Friday at Buffalo State.
In the championship game of the Marriott Thanksgiving Showcase, Utica topped Salve Regina, 5-1.
