OSWEGO — Gavin Ruggio tossed a one-hit shutout in Bosco’s 9-0 victory over Vona’s during an Oswego Little League Majors Division matchup on Wednesday.
Ruggio was in command of the strike zone as he racked up 13 strikeouts.
Strong defensive plays from second baseman Eli Belawske and first baseman Isaac Krul helped Ruggio secure the shutout for Bosco’s.
Zach Truell started on the mound for Vona’s. He kept Bosco’s scoreless through three innings and fanned eight batters.
In the fourth inning with runners in scoring position and one out, Kevin Waters sparked the Bosco’s offense with a perfectly-executed sacrifice bunt to bring the baserunners home for the score.
Brody Woods (2), Krul (2), Ruggio (2), and Adam Gfeller collected hits to keep the momentum late in the game and secure the win.
Oly Hoefer had the lone hit for Vona’s.
Elks 4, Lighthouse Lanes 0: Elks pitcher Tommy Kirwan and Lighthouse Lanes hurler Owen Sincavage were locked into a pitcher’s duel this week in Oswego Little League Majors Division action.
Kirwan, however, had the upper hand on the mound as he propelled Elks to a 4-0 win over Lighthouse Lanes. Kirwan tossed a complete-game no hitter, striking out 16 batters and assisting on two outs during the game. He threw nine-straight strikes to retire the side in the first inning.
Owen Sincavage went four innings for Lighthouse Lanes and struck out nine batters, leaving the game with the score at 3-0. Jordan Thompson finished the game for Lighthouse with two strikeouts.
Kirwan led the Elks offensively with three hits, two runs scored and two runs batted in. Adam Greene chipped in a double and a single. Mason Naumann, Nolan Roy, Jameson Stepien and Daniel Callen all reached base for the Elks.
Dominic Alfano-Kimball, Charlie Cherchio, and Mike Conzone reached base for Lighthouse Lanes.
