OSWEGO — Fifth-seeded Bosco’s overwhelmed the fourth-seeded Police with a 22-3 victory on Thursday in the opening round of the Oswego Little League Majors Division Playoffs.
Gavin Ruggio pitched a complete game on the mound for Bosco’s. He allowed three runs on five hits, three walks and three hit-batsmen while striking out seven batters.
Ruggio also led the offensive charge for Bosco’s with a double, two singles, four runs scored and a walk. Adam Gfeller collected two singles and a double, and scored three runs. Isaac Krul walked three times, scored three runs and singled. Kevin Waters singled twice, walked two times and scored twice. Noah Caroccio scored twice, walked and singled — while Toby Caroccio walked two times and scored a run.
Tanner Palmitesso walked, was hit by a pitch and scored twice for the Police. Cam Atkinson singled twice and walked, and Cayden Carpenter singled and walked. Peyton Turner singled and scored a run. Mischa Palmitesso chipped in a double.
Atkinson, Carpenter, Brett DeGrenier, Palmitesso and Dominic Gillen pitched for the Police.
Bosco’s kicked off the first inning with a few runs. With runners on base, Ruggio scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-0 Bosco’s. Later in the inning, Gfeller doubled and drove home Krul for a 2-0 advantage. Waters then reached on an error, which scored Gfeller and bulked the Bosco’s lead to 3-0.
In the top of the third inning, Bosco’s jumped the Police for a 17-run scoring frenzy. Rey Colon’s two-run single to score Waters and Ian Partlow ignited the scoring blaze for Bosco’s. Ruggio, Noah Caroccio and Waters chipped in run-scoring singles in the inning.
The Police scored two of their runs in the bottom of the third. Atkinson reached base on an infield single, scoring Turner and Palmitesso in the process.
The bottom of the fifth is where the Police scored its third run of the game. With one out, Palmitesso walked. Palmitesso stole second base, moved to third on a passed ball and scored later in the inning.
The next opening round matchup was on Friday between sixth-seeded Vona’s and third-seeded Firefighters. Look for results of this game in a later edition of The Palladium-Times.
Bosco’s moves on to the semifinal round and its next opponent depends on the outcome of the Vona’s-Firefighters game.
