OSWEGO — Oswego lost 3-2 to Central Square in pool play of the District 8 Little League 12-and-under baseball tournament on Saturday at Lagoe Field.

Oswego faced Liverpool on Sunday in the second game of play in the Blue Pool at Losurdo Field. On Tuesday, Oswego rounds out pool play with a matchup against Baldwinsville at 6 p.m. at Lagoe Field.

The top two teams from the Blue Pool will advance to the Championship Bracket at Skyway Park. The top two teams from the Red Pool and the White Pool will complete the six-team Championship Bracket field.

Oswego’s Dominic Alfano-Kimball pitched 4.2 innings and struck out eight batters. He allowed three runs, two hits, and five walks. Cam Atkinson pitched to one batter in the bottom of the fifth, recording a strikeout.

Mason Naumann singled and knocked in a run for Oswego. Carter Guynn singled and scored a run, while Nolan Roy walked twice and scored a run. Oley Hoefer, Owen Seubert, and Kimball were each issued a walk.

Michael Baker picked up the win on the bump for Central Square. He tossed five innings and fanned nine batters. He allowed two hits, two runs, and five walks. Peyton Capria notched the save in the sixth inning, walking one and striking out a batter.

Baker singled and drove in a run for Central Square. Lucas Terquinio hit a single and scored a run. Capria reached base three times and scored a run.

Central Square got on the scoreboard first. In the bottom of the first inning with one out and Capria on base, Terquinio singled up the middle to center field. Baker then singled to right-center field, plating Capria to make it 1-0. Terquinio scored on a passed ball, bulking the lead to 2-0. Later in the inning, Baker scored on a wild pitch to give Central Square a 3-0 cushion.

Central Square’s Baker kept Oswego’s offense in check for a few innings. In the top of the fourth, Oswego’s bats came alive. With one out, Roy walked and Guynn hit an infield single to put runners on first and second. Naumann grounded out to the first baseman, but Roy scored to slice the deficit to 3-1. Atkinson, who came into pinch run for Guynn, scored on a throw that went over the third baseman’s head. That made it 3-2.

Oswego threatened to score in the top of the sixth inning, but Central Square quickly shut the door on a potential comeback. With one out, Alfano-Kimball and Roy were issued back-to-back walks. Both runners advanced a base on a passed ball. Oswego batters, however, lined out to the shortstop and flew out to the center fielder to end the game.
