SYRACUSE — The Oswego 10-and-under Little League all-star baseball team beat East Syracuse-Minoa 6-5 on Saturday in the semifinal round of the District 8 Tournament.
Oswego moved on to the championship game, which was scheduled for Sunday against Baldwinsville. (Editor’s note: look for results of Sunday’s game in Tuesday’s edition of The Palladium-Times and online at OswegoCountyNewsNow.com).
Brett DeGrenier singled and scored twice for Oswego. Gavin Guynn singled and scored, while Reiyomar Colon and Aiden DeSantis each singled. Eddie Kuzawski, Christian Thompson, and Michael Waters scored a run apiece.
Kuzawski was the starting pitcher for Oswego. He went 3.2 innings, fanning seven batters while allowing five runs, four walks, and two hits.
DeGrenier pitched an inning of relief and struck out two. Thompson tossed 1.1 innings of relief and punched out the four batters he faced.
ESM took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
In the bottom of the first, Kuzawski reached on an error and later scored on a DeGrenier single. DeGrenier then scored on a fielder’s choice, which gave Oswego a 2-1 advantage.
ESM plated four runs in the third to go up 5-2. In the bottom of the third, Oswego took charge. Guynn, Colon, and DeSantis provided run-scoring singles that ignited a four-run outburst to give Oswego a 6-5 lead.
DeGrenier and Thompson combined to strike out six of the seven batters they faced between the fourth and sixth innings, providing dominant bullpen help Oswego.
