UTICA — The No. 9 Oswego State men’s hockey team lost 6-3 to No. 7 Salve Regina, Friday in the opening round of the Utica College Thanksgiving Showcase.
Oswego State (4-3) faces Plymouth State (4-3) 4 p.m. Saturday in the tournament’s consolation game. Salve Regina and No. 12 Utica College (4-1-2) square off in the championship game at 7 p.m.
Michael Gillespie and Travis Broughman each scored a power-play goal, and Mitch Emerson also had a goal for the Lakers. Max Novick, Anthony Passero and Emerson provided an assist apiece. Goaltenders Cedric Hansen and David Richer combined to make 20 saves.
For Salve Regina (8-0), John McLean, Matthew Kidney, Paul Boutoussov, Tyler Carangelo, Erik Udahl and J.J. Layton all scored a goal. McLean, Matthew Dillon and Danny Eruzione each had two assists. Between the pipes, Louis-Felix St. Jean stopped 38 shots.
Oswego State outshot Salve Regina, 41-26. Salve Regina was perfect on the power play, and killed two penalties.
