VERONA — The Oswego and Fulton varsity boys and girls cross country teams, along with the Hannibal boys team, competed at the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Invitational on Saturday.
There were eight varsity races at the event. The local squads competed in the third boys race and the third girls race.
The Oswego boys placed third as a team. Hannibal came in seventh, and Fulton took 10th.
The Raider girls finished fourth and the Buccaneers placed ninth.
Jason Purtell had the best overall finish for the Buccaneers, placing third (18:20). Harley Brinkman came in sixth (18:27), Ethan Hunt placed 22nd (19:38), and Zach DeMott grabbed 40th (20:29). Matthew Chubon (21:25.3), Landon Voss (21:25.7), and Sam Liepke (21:32) finished within the top 100.
For the Buccaneers girls, Sophia Babcock placed 12th (22:43). She was followed by Gretchen Dowd (31st, 25:50), Anna Niger (32nd, 25:57), and Ava Cloonan (47th, 26:43). Also placing within the top 100 were Ashley Finch (31:23), Madajiaha McLaughlin (36:45), and Cordelia Brown (37:09).
For the Fulton boys, Ryan Carroll (11th, 18:46) and Jacob Hahn (12th, 18:52) led the way. Elijah Turner placed 79th (22:56), and Ethan Demars took 87th (23:33).
Abby Mainville ran to a 13th-place finish (22:44) in the girls race. Emma Weaver placed 22nd (24:18), while Meilin Lamanna finished 26th (24:41). Malie Follet came in 30th (25:41), Laura Hayden was 42nd (26:24), and Isabella Cary was 44th (26:30). Ava Demars (26:54) also made the top 50.
Dillon Plantz placed fourth in 18:21. Noah Kuc grabbed 13th place in 18:53. Also running well for the Warriors were Austin Calkins (42nd, 20:32), Xavier Lastra (47th, 20:54), Alex Hall (66th, 21:50), Jacob Dennison (68th, 22:00), and Mason Garbus (72nd, 22:32).
