OSWEGO — Netting a 29-pound, 10-ounce salmon, Honeoye’s Zack Blain reeled in the $10,000 grand prize in the Lake Ontario Counties Summer Derby.
Blain caught the fish on July 27, the second-to-last day of the fishing derby that began June 29. He weighed the fish in Waterport.
There were four divisions in the summer derby. They were the Salmon Division, the Lake Trout Division, the Rainbow/Steelhead Division, and the Brown Trout Division. Each division winner received $1,000, with cash prizes paid to the top 20 anglers in each division.
Lockport’s Douglas Parker finished in first place in the Salmon Division with a 29-pound, 9-ounce fish. Oswego’s Andrew Crisafulli took 19th place with a 27-pound catch weighed at K&G Lodge in Oswego. He won $50.
In the Brown Trout Division, Marion’s Randy Snyder took first place with a 22-pound, 14-ounce catch.
North Tonawanda’s Edward Klejdys won the Lake Trout Division with a 24-pound, 5-ounce fish that he weighed in Lewiston.
Several Oswego County anglers are among the top 20 in the Lake Trout Division. Mexico’s Jacqueline McManus was third (23-pound, 8-ounce fish, $300), Pulaski’s Richard Nau took seventh (19-6, $75), Oswego’s Clint Bartel was ninth (18-14, $75), Mexico’s Jan Chybinski placed 14th (17-14, $50), Pulaski’s Mike Kinsey was 15th (17-12, $50), and Mexico’s James English took 18th (17-5, $50).
Steven Biernacki of Medina won the Rainbow/Steelhead Division with a 14-pound, 8-ounce catch weighed in Kent. Pulaski’s Denise Schneider placed seventh with a fish weighing 12 pounds, 8 ounces. She won $75.
The LOC Fall Derby is set for Aug. 16 through Sept. 2, offering a $25,000 grand prize for the largest salmon.
