OSWEGO — The Oswego State men’s soccer team fell 2-1 in second overtime to nationally-ranked Oneonta in SUNY Athletic Conference action on Friday.
After a scoreless first half, both teams came alive in the second half. The Red Dragons struck first, as Witman Hernandez found the back of the net at 63:53 for a 1-0 lead.
At 81:15, however, the Lakers tied it up at 1-1 on a goal by Jack Van Pelt.
Oswego State and Oneonta went into OT. Both squads went through the first OT without scoring, but in the second OT, Hernandez booted one home at 103:24 for the game-winning goal. Matt Howe provided the assist on the game-clincher.
Brian Terra made five saves in net for the Lakers. For the Red Dragons, Nate Hanna had just one save.
Oneonta outshot Oswego State, 21-6, and had a 7-2 advantage for shots-on-goal. The Red Dragons also had the upper hand on corner kicks (8-2).
The Lakers (7-4-1 overall, 2-1-1 SUNYAC) host New Paltz today at 2 p.m.
