ALLEGHE, Italy — The Oswego State men’s hockey team on Tuesday completed a sweep of its European foes with an 8-2 victory over Alleghe of the Italian Hockey League (IHL) in the Dolomite Mountains in front of 1,250 fans.

Derek Brown netted two goals to lead the scoring for the Lakers.

Max Novick opened the scoring three minutes into the action, benefiting from solid work in the corner by Mitch Emerson.

Alleghe knotted the game with a power-play goal in the latter half of the opening period. It was the only goal the Lakers’ penalty-kill unit surrendered overseas, finishing Tuesday 3-for-4.

Oswego State quickly regained the lead as Emerson found the back of the net just one minute later.

Early in the second period, Brown scored with a backhand, top-shelf shot after a transition feed from Travis Broughman.

The Lakers posted two more tallies in the second to make it 5-1, capped by Joseph Molinaro’s unassisted goal.

After Alleghe scored its second goal of the game, Oswego State pushed its margin back to four with Brown’s tally as Michael Gillespie played the puck right off his teammate’s stick.

Anthony Passero and Josh Zizek used a give-and-go play for the Lakers’ seventh marker, cashed in by Passero. Jody Sullivan was also in on the play with an assist.

Oswego State tacked on one more goal for the 8-2 final result.

In goal for the Lakers, Steven Kozikoski made eight stops in the first period, senior David Richer recorded seven saves in the second period, and senior Cedric Hansen had nine saves in the third.

Oswego State’s final three days in Europe were to be spent touring Rome, viewing sights such as Vatican City, the Sistine Chapel, the Pantheon and the Colosseum. On Aug. 18, the Lakers will fly back to the United States.

The Lakers will host an exhibition game against Carleton Place at 7 p.m. Oct. 19.
