OSWEGO — The 43rd annual Oswego Country Club Invitational golf tournament was held on Saturday and Sunday.
The format was medal play with the field being flighted after the first round on Saturday. It was a beautiful day for golf on Saturday, but not so nice on Sunday with intermittent rain and gusty winds.
At the end of day one, Kevin Vandenberg of Tuscarora Golf Club was in the lead after shooting an even-par 71. He was followed closely by Greg Lavery of Oswego CC, Brad Monroe, and Mike Mento at 72.
Sunday morning dawned with gloomy, rainy weather but conditions did improve throughout the day. Vandenberg shot a stellar 3-under-par 68 to win the tournament by five strokes.
Chad Holbert and Mike Palmitesso Jr. were tournament chairs with the help of the Oswego Country Club Pro Shop staff led by Ryne Varney and Mike Hogan.
Course superintendent Scott Peters had the course prepared well under the adverse conditions that Mother Nature has thrown at him this spring.
