ELMIRA — Brandan Gartland poured in 22 points to propel the Oswego State men’s basketball team to an 85-80 victory over Ithaca College, Friday in the Lakers’ season opener and semifinal round of the Elmira College Tip-Off Tournament.
Gartland was 4-of-8 from three-point range. Jeremiah Sparks and Julien Crittendon each chipped in 15 points. Joe Sullivan recorded a double-double (11 points, 12 boards), while Jordan Brown had nine points and eight rebounds. Liam Sanborn added nine points and eight assists, and Lou Fedello contributed nine rebounds.
For the Bombers, Riley Thompson led all scorers with 29 points. Sebastian Alderete and Skylar Sinon both had 13 points and six rebounds, with Sinon also racking up five assists. Bryan Karl scored 11 points.
Oswego State outrebounded Ithaca, 45-31.
The Lakers had a 48-36 advantage at the break. The Bombers outscored the Lakers 44-37 in the second half, but Oswego State held on for the win.
Oswego State (1-0) faces Keystone College in the Elmira College Tip-Off Tournament championship game Saturday at 4 p.m. Keystone defeated host Elmira, 77-68, in the other semifinal matchup.
