FULTON — Jon Dingman and Derek Schumaker each scored two goals as the Fulton varsity boys hockey team defeated Batavia-Notre Dame 6-1 in its season-opening game on Saturday at Fulton Ice Arena.
Dylan Burke and C.J. Watts also scored for the Red Raiders. Dingman provided three assists, and Adam Cooney added two. Schumaker, Fred White, Nicolai Tardibone, and Derek Carter each contributed an assist. Goaltender Jadon Lee stopped 35 shots.
Jed Reese netted the lone goal of the game for the Irish, assisted by Alex Totten. Alex Hunt made 26 saves in goal.
After a scoreless first period, Fulton’s attack came alive in the second period. At 2:26, Burke scored to make it 1-0. Then at 3:44, Watts slapped in his goal to bump the score to 2-0.
Notre Dame cut it to 2-1 with Reese’s goal at 4:20, but Schumaker netted his first goal of the game for a 3-1 Fulton advantage.
Dingman recorded his first goal of the day at 11:59, padding the Raiders’ lead to 4-1.
Dingman and Schumaker each tallied their second goals of the matchup in the third period.
The Raiders (1-0) are set to compete in the Baldwinsville Conklin Tournament at Lysander Ice Arena this weekend.
