KPS Holiday Giving Project again a success as community helped 'keep the magic in Christmas'

The Kingsford Park Elementary School Holiday Giving Project committee, above, is thanking its supporters for another year of helping "keep the magic in Christmas."

To the editor,

Kingsford Park Elementary School completed their annual Holiday Giving Project this year with the help and guidance of many KPS Faculty, Staff and students, as well as generous donors within the school and community. The Holiday Giving committee would like to thank everyone who was able to help make this possible and touch the lives of 45 families this Holiday Season.

The Home and School Association at Kingsford Park helped with purchasing and organizing many food donations, health care products and donations of turkeys which created a most plentiful box to go home with families. Mrs. Julie Chetney, Ms. Theresa Gilbert, along with other parent helpers organized and helped make this possible.

The fifth-grade classes and their teachers, Mrs. Burridge, Mrs. Peterson and Mrs. Moxley held a Spell-a-Thon event at school. All proceeds went to purchasing gifts/toys for children with their annual trip to Walmart. Many parent volunteers helped chaperone the students who were able to make their own purchases with an allotment of money. Mrs. Moxley also helped to lead a Givetober Event in the month of October with her student council group. The children in student council requested items such as socks, non-perishable items and toiletries.

Linda Harris and Betty Shannon, who work at the James A. Fitzpatrick Nuclear Power Plant in the Engineering Department (along with coworkers/friends), adopted families and provided a wonderful Christmas for those in need of help this year.

Mr. Peter Orphanos, Kristen Sechrest and Becca Titus from the Exelon Corporation donated beautiful winter coats for boys and girls this Christmas Season. Many thanks for the donations to our school community at KPS and keeping our children warm.

We would like to kindly thank others who so generously made donations, both monetary and in kind. Among these are: The generous parents and Staff at Kingsford Park School, past and present, The Elks Ladies’ Auxiliary, Mrs. Linda Geiger, The Children’s Board, People Against Poverty/Newman Center, The Compass Credit Union, The Ladies at the Hibernians, Mrs. Carrie Penoyer with Oswego Rotary Club, Paul’s Big M and Americold Logistics.

On behalf of the Holiday Giving Committee, our most sincere thank you and appreciation. Our Oswego community certainly came through this holiday season to help keep the magic in Christmas for many children. Thank you.
