To the editor,
My name is Floyd Calkins. I am currently serving as Hannibal town councilman, and I am running for Hannibal town supervisor. The Republican Primary is coming up this Tuesday, June 25. The polls are open from noon - 9 p.m.
I have accomplished many tasks since being elected to the Hannibal Town Council in 2017 including:
I led the charge to replace the lighting at the Town Hall and Highway Garage with LEDs, which was paid for by a $5,000 grant that I secured. This is expected to save the town taxpayers over $1,000 a year in electricity.
I discovered a misappropriation of town funds from a lighting district that was improperly set up years ago and investigated ways to rectify the issue. This has since been corrected.
I have attended numerous trainings and courses offered by the New York Comptroller’s Office, including Advanced Governmental Accounting. These courses assisted me in identifying numerous budget structure errors resulting in the establishment of proper funds that are required by state law.
I have lived in Hannibal for 45+ years. To say I am dedicated to the town is an understatement. I want nothing more than to make the town a better place to live. I believe this can be accomplished by following the law, educating myself and working with the other town council members to make sure that everything is being done as it should be - not because it's always been done a certain way. I feel that it needs to be done the right way.
If you have any questions, I am more than happy to talk to you directly. You can reach me at 315-640-1538. Thank you for your support!
