OSWEGO — Ronald David Verdoliva Sr., 76, of Oswego, died Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at the Crouse Hospital Intensive Care Unit following a brief illness.
He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Donna (Susino) Verdoliva of Oswego, and their children Tammy (Charles) Atkinson of Scriba; Mary Ann (Raymond Joseph) Grimshaw of Michigan; Ronald (Terri Penfield) Verdoliva Jr. of Tennessee; Barbara (Patrick) Carroll of Oswego; and Melisa (Megan Daley) Verdoliva of Oswego; his grandchildren, Jessica, Zachary, Tyler, Trent, Joan, Austin and Jordan; as well as four great-grandchildren.
Born and raised in Oswego, the son of the late John and Mary (Knopp) Verdoliva, and he remained a lifelong resident. He was predeceased by his parents as well as his brothers Michael and Kenneth.
Ronald met his wife, Donna, at Wade’s Diner when he offered her a ride home and he spent the next 54 years taking orders, fulfilling “to do” lists, making sauce and driving her crazy chewing on his ice and tapping his fingers. They were married in 1965 at St. Mary’s Church.
In 1966, Ronald had the opportunity to work at Alcan as a mechanic. He spent 34 years working long hours, making sacrifices to provide for his family and retired from Alcan in 2000.
In 1964, he joined the U.S. National Guard and served his country for six years.
During his retirement, Ronald spent most of his time watching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren excel at sporting events. A pool shark himself, he also spent some time as a member of the Moose Lodge in Oswego, VFW and American Legion. He also enjoyed gardening, camping and supervising family projects.
A private funeral service was held at Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home, 147 W. Fourth St., Oswego.
