SCRIBA — George F. DeLong, 64, of Scriba, passed at home on July 24th 2019, surrounding by his loving family.
A lifelong Oswegonian, he graduated from Oswego High School and later met and married his wife, Debora (Cliff) DeLong. Together they raised their two sons.
George worked at Novelis, retiring in 2017 after 44 years.
He was a member of the Elks 271. He served on the Compass Credit Union Board, was a past president and also served on the supervisory committee. He resigned in 2019 due to illness. In June he was awarded the New York State Volunteer of the Year for credit unions.
George was an outdoorsman and an avid hunter and fisherman. He shared these passions with his boys. He also enjoyed golf and bowling.
George is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Debora; two sons, George II (Laurie) DeLong of Oswego and Ryan (Sasha) DeLong of Sterling; four brothers, Mark (Brenda) DeLong of North Carolina, Alan DeLong of Oswego, Rodney (Jane) DeLong of Fulton and Jay DeLong of Oswego; three granddaughters, Megan, Emma, and Serena DeLong; and one grandson, Dalton Smiedy; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his brother Timothy DeLong; his maternal grandparents, George and Betty Harrington; and his brother-in-law Danny Cliff.
Calling hours will be 3-6 p.m. Monday, July 29, with a service to follow at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany St.
