OSWEGO — George David Gunther Sr., 84, passed at home, on June 26, 2019, surrounded by his family.
Born in Oswego, he was the son of Catherine Mahaney Deming.
George attended Oswego schools and graduated from Oswego High School. He later earned his degree in Metallergical.
George was drafted into the United States Army in 1956 and served two years.
He met and married his wife of 63 years, Elaine Reitz Gunther and together raised two sons.
George was employed by Hammermill in Marathon and later retired from Alcan.
He loved traveling and enjoyed his trips to the casino. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He cherished his time spent with his wife and family.
In addition to his mom, George was predeceased by his son Michael; three brothers, Jay, John and James; and two sisters, Lois Terminella and Amy Clavelli.
He is survived by his loving wife Elaine; his son George Jr.; grandson George Gunther III; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held from 3-5 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, with a service to follow at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany St.
Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
