Halloween rocks

A photo provided by the Oswego County District Attorney's office shows rocks what a parent claims came out of their child's "DOTS" package following an evening of trick-or-treating, according to county DA Greg Oakes.

MEXICO — A 58-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a Halloween incident where he allegedly tampered with candy by putting rocks inside the packaging before it ended up in the hands of innocent trick-or-treaters

Jeffrey C. Beardslee, of 26 South Jefferson Street in Mexico, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor, on Saturday afternoon.

On Halloween night, Oswego County District Attorney Greg Oakes cautioned parents to double check their candy collected by children who went out trick-or-treating in the town of Mexico.

Two reports of individuals who found little rocks instead of candy inside packages “DOTS” boxes were seen widely on social media.

The parents both claimed that the candy inside the boxes had been replaced with rocks and resealed, Oakes said.

Beardslee is scheduled to appear in Mexico Town Court on Nov. 27.
