VOLNEY—A Hannibal man was arrested Friday and charged with bribing a witness in relation to a case involving previous crimes the man allegedly committed.
Micahel S. Fountain, 40, was arrested Friday after allegedly attempting to bribe a 14-year-old female to lie to authorities. Fountain is charged with bribing a witness, a class D felony, and acting in a manner injurious to a child under 17, a class A misdemeanor
State police said Fountain was previously arrested in August and charged with endangering the welfare of a child and criminal possession of stolen property. Authorities said Fountain asked the 14-year-old girl to steal political signs from private property, and later asked her to lie to police as part of an effort to avoid prosecution.
A state police spokesman said the teenager recalled an incident in the first week of June in which the two were driving and Fountain stopped the car and told her to get out and grab a sign for Lou Ann Ruczynski Coleman, who at the time was running for Oswego County Family Court Judge.
