WILLIAMSTOWN — Law enforcement officials have identified the drivers in a weekend head-on collision that killed one man and sent another to the hospital.

According to a release from the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office, Paul Edwards, 47, of Williamstown, was southbound on County Route 7 near Vida Drive shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday when he crossed the center line and crashed directly into a 2007 Chrysler van traveling the opposite direction.

Edwards was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the van, 30-year-old John Fielder, also of Williamstown, was transported to Upstate Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

In the release, police said alcohol “was a contributing factor for the driver of the pickup truck.”

Edwards and Fielder were acquaintances, according to police, and had attended the same gathering earlier that day.
