OSWEGO — A “small” mercury spill on Friday marshalled hazardous material teams from Oswego and Onondaga counties.

According to Oswego Fire Department Chief Randy Griffin, firefighters and haz-mat technicians from his department responded to the incident that occurred at the city’s west side water treatment plant.

The OFD team was joined by the Syracuse Hazardous Materials Team, Griffin said, and worked together to clean up the spill.

“The spill came from old, discarded equiment that still contained mercury,” Griffin said, adding no injuries were associated with the spill and the public was not endangered.
