REDFIELD — A Hastings man has been charged with vehicular manslaughter after a motorcycle accident yielded one dead in Redfield earlier this month.
Paul C. Johnson, 70, was driving a 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle with a female passenger on Sunday, June 9 along county Route 27 and went off the roadway colliding with a tree, according to the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office.
The female passenger, identified by officials as Deborah Richards, 60, also of Hastings, was pronounced dead on scene from injuries she sustained striking the tree. Johnson was taken to University Hospital in Syracuse with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
In a release, officials from the sheriff’s office said alcohol appeared to be a contributing factor in the crash.
Johnson was arraigned in Scriba Town Court and released on his own recognizance.
In addition to the second-degree vehicular manslaughter charge, Johnson was charged with driving while intoxicated, crossing road hazards, operating a motor vehicle without an inspection certificate and a license violation.
